Tips
- Under ~50 pieces, a leather workshop or Etsy maker is usually faster and cheaper than a factory.
- Bag hubs: Guangzhou (Shiling) in China; Kanpur, Kolkata and Chennai in India for leather goods.
Design rules
- Give outside dimensions (W x H x D) and strap drop: factories make the pattern from a reference photo plus dimensions.
- Stock hardware in a standard finish is cheapest; logo zipper pulls or engraved buckles need molds and raise the minimum.
- Leather grade drives price: full-grain > top-grain > split or bonded; PU (vegan) leather is cheaper and more consistent in color.
- Approve a pre-production sample: stitching, edge finish (painted or folded) and lining.

Safety and legal checks
- EU: REACH limits chromium VI in leather that touches skin (3 mg/kg) and bans certain azo dyes; ask for test reports if you'll sell there. Exotic leathers need CITES permits.
